Rome has ice cream shops everywhere, as well as sites such as the Santa Maria della Concezione crypt, with decoration made of bones, is a favorite of the teenage set. Skulls from Capuchin friars who once lived there decorate the walls and light fixtures. This oddity will delight at least some of the family and will be of interest, hopefully, to others.

In Florence, one can visit the cafes and restaurants surrounding the Piazza del Signoria, where a copy of Michangelo’s David is housed. At Il Duomo- the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, climb 463 steps up to the top, where a magnificent view of Florence is seen.

Venice offers the Grand Canal, where visitors can travel and explore by renting a gondola. One can stay at a bed and breakfast or luxury hotel, such as the Palazzo Gritti, with views overlooking the Gran Canal.

One hotel I would look at would be La Residenza in Rome. It is a nice luxurious hotel and still is very homey. It has a court yard where your kids can play, and large enough room for a family. The hotel is at convenient location for touring.

Another family inn is the Hotel Menardi in Cortina. The hotel has comfy fireplaces and views of the Dolomite peaks. This hotel is in a resort area but the price is still affordable. The rooms are spotlessly clean throughout with a friendly and welcoming staff.
